MNP Datafeed Service

Ever since consumers started to port mobile numbers in ever increasing volumes, service providers have found it ineffective to use the default allocated number range to ascertain the current "network owner". For example a mobile number may have been originally allocated to Telstra, but has since been ported to Optus.

Without knowledge of this porting activity, service providers are often unable to deliver voice / SMS traffic in the most cost effective way.

Below are a few examples where clients have benefited from using the datafeed service.

  • For a client with interconnects to multiple other service providers, then routing traffic for a given mobile number directly to the current network owner was cheaper than routing it indirectly and incurring additional transit charges.
  • For a client with interconnects to just one other service provider, then cheaper termination rates applied when sending "washed" (current network owner) as opposed to "unwashed" traffic.
  • For a client setting up an interconnect with a particular service provider, only "washed" traffic was acceptable, with no transit service offered.

The MNP Datafeed Service is offered on either a real-time, daily or weekly frequency basis.

Obviously to make use of the data supplied, service providers typically need to import this information into their intelligent network / switch device databases as appropriate.

For further technical details in relation to the daily or weekly MNP Datafeed Service please view the Technical Fact Sheet.

The real-time Technical Fact Sheet is currently being updated, and will be available again shortly.
